Name: Overhead Cable or Aerial Cable
The cable that hangs the cable rack on the electric pole at a certain height above the ground is called overhead cable, fully known as overhead insulated cable, which is a kind of overhead wire with insulation layer and protective skin. It adopts a special cable similar to the production process of cross-linked cable, and is a new transmission mode between overhead wire and underground cable.
Although compared with underground cables, overhead cables are more easily affected by the outside world, is not safe, also not beautiful, but more to aerial cable erection is simple, high power supply reliability, good stability, convenient construction and maintenance of power supply and reasonable economy main characteristics such as, so far away from the signal tower, with fewer users and change is bigger, Underground cables are still widely used where laying them is difficult.
Aerial cables are generally single core cables. According to their structure, they can be divided into hard aluminum wire structure, hard drawn copper wire structure, aluminum alloy wire structure, steel core or aluminum alloy core support structure and self-supporting three-core grain structure (wire core can be hard aluminum or hard copper wire).
Scope of application
The product is suitable for rated AC voltage of 10KV and above overhead power lines and power transmission and distribution circuits in cities ,like high-rise buildings ,tourist development zones and forested area.
Operating characteristic
(1) Rated voltage U is 1kV and below.
(2) Long-term permissible operating temperature of conductor:HDPE insulation shall not exceed 75ºC; XLPE insulation shall not exceed 90ºC.
(3) Short circuit (the longest time is not more than 5 seconds), the highest temperature of the cable: high density polyethylene insulation of 150ºC, crosslinked polyethylene insulation of 250ºC.
(4) The laying temperature of the cable should not be less than -20ºC.
(5) Allowable bending radius of cable:
If the cable outer diameter (D) is less than 25mm, it should not be less than 4D.
If the cable diameter (D) is 25mm and above, it shall not be less than 6D.
Why are the conductor of overhead cables mostly aluminum?
1.The electrical conductivity of aluminum is second only to that of copper, which is only two thirds of that of copper, but its density is only one third of that of copper. Copper is more dense than aluminum, which is heavier, which will increase the difficulty of overhead. Therefore, the weight of aluminum wire is only half that of copper wire, which is more suitable for use at high altitude.
2.The oxide film on the surface of aluminum not only has the ability to resist corrosion, but also has a certain insulation, so aluminum is widely used in electrical manufacturing, wire and cable industry and radio industry.
3. Aluminum is cheaper than copper, and overhead lines are more economical than copper.
4. indoor copper wire and aluminum wire connection, copper and aluminum wire connection will occur electrochemical reaction, aluminum wire is oxidized, will produce a layer of gray material on it, prone to line failure. Therefore, try to connect the terminal to the copper slot. But the cable in the high altitude is different, it will not cause the line failure, so, only need to use aluminum wire.
